Chand Baori: BEST Things to Do Near Stepwell, Abhaneri (2026)

If you’re interested in India’s hidden history, the journey of the moon bag is an essential one. The Rajasthan site has all the information you need to arrange your trip. The skill behind Chand Baori is its symmetry and depth. It has 3,500 thin levels that are placed in perfect symmetry and go 13 storeys deep into the Earth. Are you planning your trip?

The building was built to save water. The most interesting thing about this stepwell built by King Chand Raja of the Chandela dynasty is that each floor descends down 12 feet, making the total depth over 98 feet. There are 3,500 thin steps that go down around 20 metres (65 feet) in a very exact geometric design. This area is much more attractive for those who prefer to see things that seem like inverted pyramids. The step well is square and has an excellent symmetrical design with several levels of steps. It takes over 3,500 steps to get to the bottom of the Abhaneri Step Well, which is 100 feet deep. There are steep steps on three sides of the stepwell, and galleries on two storeys on the fourth side.

The stepwell has 3,500 steps that make it look like a mystical building. The step well used to be more than just a step well. At one point in history, the stepwell had a big palace on top and the small palace thing had a few chambers. The stepwell palace has fallen apart over the years, and now just a part of it can be seen.

The step well had an old water system, and the water was used for many things. The British ignored this old way of storing water and put in pipelines and tanks instead, saying that the water in Abhaneri Step Well is used for drinking and other things like bathing and washing. The old-fashioned water system in the village of Abhaneri fell apart because of this.

Abhaneri is 95 km from Jaipur and is known for the Harshat Mata shrine and the Chand Baori step well. Chand Baori is right in front of the temple and was built by the indigenous to collect water.

Jaipur and Mandawa

The Johri, the Hyatt Regency Mansarovar, and the Rambagh Palace. The Leela Palace in Jaipur or Fairmont on the outskirts of Kukas are good places to go if you want to get away from the noise and have your own car. These places are remote from the city core, but they feature big grounds that look like resorts.JodhpurOn the third day of your trip to Rajasthan, get up early and take a cab from Jaipur to Jodhpur. Five to six hours would be needed to get there. After you visit its museums and palaces, glance down at the Blue City from above.

Jodhpur

Like other cities in Rajasthan, it boasts a beautiful fort and a historic center with bazaars and narrow streets from the Middle Ages. This can be the best place for you to take a break from culture for a day. It’s really easy to get lost, just so you know! A 10-day Rajasthan program takes you on a journey to the royal heart of India. Traveling between July and September could be wonderful if you appreciate the monsoon but don’t want to be around a lot of other people. The rain brings the arid land back to life.

In Jaipur, apps like Ola and Uber that let you share trips might be cheaper than taxi stands at hotels and airports that charge you. The best thing you can do for your schedule while you’re in Rajasthan is rent a car from a travel agency for the whole time you’re there. This makes it easier, faster, and more free to travel. Going to Rajasthan by train, bus, and local taxi Trip will make it easy and cheap to see everything. This is wonderful if you have a lot of spare time and don’t mind the hassle that comes with it. Since it reaches to 40 degrees Celsius in April, we choose something a little cozier.

Fort Nahargarh

The way Madhavendra Bhawan is put up is one of its outstanding features. There is a giant room in the middle for the king and twelve smaller rooms for his queens.

Madhavendra Bhawan is an example of how Indian and European influences have come together in architecture. The inside is magnificent, with a lot of art and flower displays that have been there for years. The Sculpture Park initiative has made the Bhawan a place to see modern art.

The Nahargarh Step Well can only be seen by anyone who go to the fort complex. The step well was a highly important feature of the fort’s water storage system, especially since it located on top of a hill. No one uses it now.

The stairs are a great place to take pictures and videos because they look lovely and have intriguing angles. One of the best things to do in Nahargarh Fort is eat at Padao Restaurant. There are a lot of things to do there, and this is only one of them. The meal isn’t really good, but the view is. You may eat on top of one of Jaipur’s most famous buildings. The fort has been the site of many events throughout the years, including fashion shoots from all over the world and concerts by local folk singers. These things show how enjoyable and flexible the fort is.

Summary

The 3,500 steps are built horizontally on all three sides, not straight. The fourth side, which faces the stepwell, includes several idols of Lord Ganesh and Mahisasurmardini and is like a pavillion with some beautifully carved jharokhas.

The Chand Baori stepwell itself is the most important thing to see in and around Chand Baori.  It is located near the village of Abhaneri, Rajasthan. You can also visit the Harshat Mata Temple, which is next to the stepwell. It is devoted to the goddess of happiness and joy.
